BKT bici pública celebrates the new phase of ECOBICI and concludes its role as the system's operator.
BKT bici pública recognizes and congratulates the Secretaría de Movilidad (SEMOVI) for continuing to promote the growth of ECOBICI, and wishes 5M2 (Grupo Expansión) every success in operating, maintaining, and expanding the system through 2036. This new stage of ECOBICI represents an important step toward the continuity of the system and toward achieving a more sustainable and accessible mobility for the city.
This new era gives us the opportunity to recognize the journey we have shared, our contribution to the project, and to announce that BKT bici pública has concluded its phase as an operator of ECOBICI.
First and foremost, we would like to recognize Mexico City's Government, who in 2010 promoted an innovative and subsidized public policy. It was then, for the first time in the country, that bikes were considered an integrated part of the public transportation system.
After a decade of ECOBICI, we became part of a fundamental milestone in the system's: its technological renewal and expansion in 2022. For us, it was an honor to be part of the history of one of the largest and most important public bike-sharing systems in America, and to contribute to its transformation.
The renewal and expansion of ECOBICI represented an enormous challenge for us, one that we faced with the responsibility, passion, and professionalism that define us. We participated in the implementation of the system’s technological renewal as part of the winning consortium alongside 5M2 (Grupo Expansión) and Lyft Urban Solutions.
As operators and implementers, we successfully migrated from one platform to another without interrupting the service or affecting users, thereby contributing to the continuity of a service that is fundamental to Mexico City's mobility.
BKT bici pública was the operator of ECOBICI until May of this year, as part of the aforementioned consortium. During this period, we contributed our experience, knowledge, and passion for bike sharing. At this time, the system surpassed the milestone of 80,000 trips per day and served more than 150,000 users.
At BKT bici pública, we continue to firmly believe in the bicycle as a tool to transform cities: to bring people closer together and build more human and sustainable ways of moving around.
We leave with the satisfaction of having been part of this story and with the certainty that every bike riding through the city is also a way of making it better.
